Our Beliefs

  • Our common faith.

We believe in a loving, liberating God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We know God as revealed in the Bible and witnessed to by the Church throughout the age and around the world. We believe that Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God, was born over 2000 years ago to show us the love of God and to bring us salvation through his life, death, resurrection, and ascension. We look to the Bible as the primary authority for the Church and believe it contains all things necessary for salvation. Each week, we recite the Nicene Creed or the Apostles’ Creed as summaries of our common faith.

All this mean that we share a lot in common with other Christians of different denominations. We also have room for you, whatever your beliefs are or story is. Our beliefs define the core of who we are as a community, rather than the boundary of who we exclude. We invite you to join us as we all learn more about the historic faith of Jesus Christ together.

  • The Episcopal Church.

While we share much in common with other Christians, we live our faith in unique ways as Episcopalians. Our history is connected to The Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church was founded after American independence. This connection ties us to the Anglican Communion, meaning we share common belief and worship with Anglican Christians around the globe.

What makes our way of pursuing the Christian faith unique is, in part, The Book of Common Prayer. Its first version was born in England as a way to hold together the diversity of English Christianity that contained Catholic, Evangelical, and Reformed groups. The Book of Common Prayer unites us with Anglicans around the world in common forms of praying and Sunday worship. It also contains rich resources for individual, couple, and family faith life that help us to come to know God more fully.

  • Living the faith

Our worship life centered on Jesus Christ summons us to live out his example and teachings. Jesus promises to meet us as we read the Bible, as we gather around the Communion altar, and as we serve others. After all, each person is made in God’s image and we honor God as we honor God’s image in others. We live our faith as each of us goes about our daily lives of work, friends, family, and recreation. We also live it in intentional ways as a community through service such as serving lunch to people in need at Harmony House, partnering with Cridlin Food & Clothing Pantry, and providing weekend meals to elementary students via Blessings in a Backpack. You can also get involved in the life of our community through a number of ways behind the scenes and upfront in worship, such as being a lector (reading scripture) or Eucharistic minister (helping serve communion).
