Marshall Campus Ministry

Trinity Episcopal Church is committed to being present in the lives of the students and staff of Marshall University.  For fifty years we have been proud to be involved with the Campus Christian Center, which is located on the on Marshall’s campus.  The Campus Christian Center is an ecumenical partnership between numerous Protestant denominations that are committed to being supportive and active in the Marshall University community.  Marshall University’s Episcopal Campus Ministry, Canterbury Fellowship, is based at the Campus Christian Center, which is located on the corner of 17th street and 5th avenue.  Starting in January 2012 Canterbury Fellowship will meet on Monday nights at 7pm at the Campus Christian Center for dinner and worship, until then they meet Sunday nights at 6 pm.

The Episcopal campus minister for Marshall University is Stephen Day.  He also serves as the diocesan youth minister for the southern and central regions of West Virginia.  Stephen can be reached via email at sday@wvdiocese.org or at (304) 633-6454.

Youth Events Around the Diocese

We have several exciting events coming up for both groups being held in the diocese for youth and young adults during the fall and winter of 2011/2012.

The first event of this school year will be a Young Adult/College Retreat, which will take place September 16-18 at Jackson's Mill, near Weston, WV.  More information about this retreat will be sent out very soon.  From October 14-16 there will be a service retreat for high school and middle school students at Christ Church in Fairmont.

In November we will begin the process of reintroducing "Happening" to the Diocese of West Virginia by traveling to the Diocese of Southern Virginia to experience their Happening retreat.  "Happening" is a program-based retreat that is led by young people and for young people.  Before we can host a Happening retreat in West Virginia we need to take several young people to experience it in other dioceses so that they can then lead one here.  When attending Happenings in other diocese we are looking for approximately three to five young high school students who can travel with us and then take part in planning and leading future Happenings in West Virginia.  Participants might need to miss part of a school day in order to participate.

In February, we will again offer two ski trips/retreats for middle and high school students.  These will again be based at Trinity Church, Shepherdstown and St. Stephen's, Beckley.  This year the trips will take place on two back-to-back weekends in the first half of February.

We will also have a Spring event that will likely be a provincial youth event.  More information about this event will be publicized once it is available.

If you have any questions about these events or would like more information please contact either Jason Beschinski (jbeschinski@wvdiocese.org and 1-304-541-7190) or Stephen Day (sday@wvdiocese.org).  As events approach we will send out more information via WV Mission and US mail to parishes.
